The Temptation of Two Response

I found the theme of Rogers' piece to be self discovery. She learns a lot about herself in the course of the essay. She airs on the side of caution in the beginning of her story, but begins to realize what her boundaries are, what she likes, and even who she likes by the end.

I like how Rogers takes a different perspective than most people. She writes, "Some days this creates a melancholy some would call loneliness, yet most days I think of it as freedom" (page 162).

Another piece of language I like is her multiple references to youth. She references it when introducing Emily, then again when she describes the comfort of her car as home base in a child's game, and lastly when she writes about riding double on the bicycle, something she hasn't done since grade school.
