Ascension in the Moonlight

I believe the theme of Ascension in the Moonlight  is to appreciate moments in life. Winchester expresses deep gratitude in his writing when he describes the friendship and night at the beach given to him by Paul and Angela, and conveys to the reader that it was important for him to appreciate that moment and everything around him.

One example of language uses by Winchester is the vivid descriptions of his surroundings. He uses metaphors to give descriptions of what he saw in Ascension Island such as "postcard-sized field of the purest white shell powder" and "clear sky full of a blizzard of stars." This use of metaphors gives the reader more of a sense of what the scene really looks like.

Another use of language Winchester uses very specific details of happenings to add to characters or the scene. For example when he writes of Angela "lobbing pebbles at any donkeys that tried to eat her sandwiches" I felt the character was more reachable.
