A fun fact about me is that I can ride a unicycle! At least I could a few years ago… Not sure if I can anymore- it’s definitely not as easy as riding a bike! Speaking of bikes, I’ll discuss “Bicycle Love” now.
I believe the theme of Goodspeed’s story is adventure. Going on different journeys makes a person more positive, openminded, and fearless. Goodspeed quoted, “I wasn’t afraid anymore… The bike-which at first made me feel vulnerable-now empowered me… I loved France for being my place of pilgrimage. I felt forever changed by it” (pg 147). Her journey in France turned her into a completely different person.
I loved the mood of Godspeed’s story. I felt inspired after reading about her journey and how it made her into a better person.
I also liked the imagery she used in her story. From the food (“fresh cherries and quiche”) to the streets (“Rabbits darted in front of me on the long, smooth roads that cut across endless cornfields”) to the strangers she met, I enjoyed reading her words.
