Bicycle Love Response

Hello, all! Fun fact is a scary term, and I'm not sure I'm doing it justice, but something about me that I think is interesting is that I know the Nestle chocolate chip cookie recipe by heart. I believe that the theme of "Bicycle Love" is pilgrimage. It's a reoccurring theme throughout the story that Brianne is trying to find direction for herself, and this can be backed up by the fact that she is repeatedly guided by strangers to her destinations. Through the help of others, she then is able to grow and feels more confident in riding her bike alone, as well as just being alone, which she realizes when she's recounting her tale to the bicycle shop repairman.

Goodspeed does a fantastic job weaving tone throughout her story. Overall, it's a hopeful story, but there are examples of dry humor and despair that experienced travelers can relate to. For example, "he smiled, the rotten tooth hanging over his lip. I decided to leave that night," made me laugh, while "views from empty town squares were breathtaking but I didn't care" was a feeling that I can relate to while traveling, that the beauty around you can feel worthless if you are still not at your destination.
