Meredith Scott- The Temptations of Two

I think the theme of The Temptations of Two is to live life to the fullest. She starts off hesitant about going on a journey paddling by herself and by the end she is the one being adventurous and diving into the river at midnight. I like her use of analogies in the essay. She calls the comfort of being in her car like "in a child's game it would be the home base, the place of safety"(163) which I think is very relatable to anyone who would play games, such as tag, as a child. She says, "River grass snags my paddles, so each dip is like treading, with my arms, in the thickest milkshake"(163) and makes you feel the strain in your arms. I also like her very descriptive language. The street lamps aren't just lit up, but a "fading yellowish"(166) color. "The texture of the air is velvet"(166) is another description I like to imagine. The air sounds thick and soft. "Fat-tired bikes rubbing hard against the cooled asphalt"(166) this language makes me imagine them biking fast in the night.
